  • Experience in statistical programming in R, Julia, Python or similar languages

Available Positions

  1. Climate Resilient Durum Wheat

Project Description

Durum wheat is a food crop with increasing importance, but it suffers from increasing stresses. We address two major stresses here: Fusarium head blight (FHB) and wheat dwarf virus (WDV).

1) Genetic and phenotypic analysis of a new four parent MAGIC population descending from a combination of modern cultivars with WDV resistance crossed with FHB resistant lines.

2) Selection of climate fit durum wheat cultivar candidates in large segregating populations through rigorous phenotypic field selection. Selected lines will be DNA fingerprinted and analysed for selection signatures (reverse predictions).

  1. Wheat Dwarf Virus Resistance

Project Description

Insect-transmitted cereal viruses are ‘winners’ of climate change. The project aims to develop tools and new breeding lines with Wheat Dwarf Virus (WDV) Resistance

1) Genetic variation in advanced breeding material by field phenotyping and genotyping a series of modern wheat breeding lines followed by a GWAS.

2) Marker assisted selection of new cultivar candidates harbouring the WDV resistance QTL Qwdv.ifa-6A (doi:10.1007/s00122-023-04349-3) and field validation of selection response.
